Typical of the new digital information technologies and of hypertext is its combination of, to speak with Jean Baudrillard, 'fixity and flexibility' or, as George Landow puts it in chapter 1 of "Hypertext 2.0", virtual text is 'non-permanent and location-independent' (that is, only within the space of flows of course). Speed, change and restlessness become essential features. Theorists like Chela Sandoval claim that it is exactly this quality which, if desired, will allow for potential social change. She comprises her ideas in the strategy of differential movement that fits our age.
