Brewster F2A Buffalo

biplane

According to daveswarbirds.com, a site that contains information on every US Aircraft used during WW II, "The Buffalo is known for its portly barrel shape and its poor performance. The only major action in U.S. hands was at the battle of Midway, where its Marine pilots suffered heavy casualties against the more nimble Japanese Zeros." According to Joe Braugher, however, when these planes were sold to Finland (and renamed the B-239), they did extremely well in the war with Russia, several Finnish pilots shooting down more than 30 Russian planes! This model was built in one of the smaller scales from a plastic kit — Revell's 1/72, I believe — which I painted with an airbrush before decaling it [GPL].
