The fact that I have stopped hating myself for being gay and started embracing it was a pretty recent development. I mean you imagine growing up gay in the suburban Midwest. In this weird moment of prophecy, the other kids a my junior high realized that I was gay before even I did. I wasn't until I got called a fairy and a faggot that I realized that I really was a fairy and a fag. And it wasn't until those bastards physically beat that fact into my head that I resigned myself to a life loving other men. Add the fact that I was one of a handful of minorities in my high school and I stuck out like a rainbow flag in Chelsea.
