Socialism is a theory which emphasises community over individualism; equality; and a commitment to the common, collective good. The 1990s were hard times for socialist feminisms, caught between the scissor blades of poststructuralist and postmodernist repudiation, and the collapse of communism But it may be hoped that these traditions of more democratic, open forms of political life will have left a trace in feminism within the newer theoretical discourses and commonalities across difference.
