Derrida points out that almost all words have multiple meanings. For example, the word "dog" can be used to distinguish domestic canines from foxes and wolves. It can be used to distinguish a male dog from a female bitch. It can refer to animals resembling a dog. "Dog" can be used to describe an ugly woman or a dispicable man, in slang. "Dogs" can refer to feet, as well as frankfurters. One can "go to the dogs," dogs being an object for ruin. There are a number of other possible ways to use the word "dog." According to Derrida, dog carries some of these meanings in every use. Because of the excess of meanings a word has, every text ends up dismantling itself.
