Foucault's idea of discourse is simply refering to a body of thoughts or writings based on a common topic. For instance, if we are to write a discourse on the Human Genome Project, various discourse will include writings pertaining to the use of the elucidated human genome in gene therapy, the writings on the social and moral implications of the human genetic data that is made available or writings on the problems faced with the vast genetic information that needs to be deciphered. Hence, a discourse encompasses texts that covers different disciplines, genres and also from different countries and time.
