disappearance

The disappearance of the author is a result of a poststructuralist investigation into the relations between language and subjects. What this means is that in the power of language over the author, the author has disappeared. This is contrary to the popular view that an author is immortalized when his work is preserved in language.

Perhaps one can view this in relation to the Derridian concept of decentreing in that the author is no longer at the very center of the work.
