The music you've just heard was from the ancient Chinese classical tune 'Three Reprises on a Plum Blossom Theme.' Each theme is repeated and developed seperately three times. Likewise, Tracy Chapman's song 'Telling Stories' develops on a theme ("There is fiction in the space between us"), which is then repeated and redeveloped three times. In the creative process, new ideas nearly always originate from the old-which are then put together once again to form something new. Creativity, in whatever guise or art form, cuts across the boundaries of culture, time and space. With every piece of creation, we tell a story, a part of ourselves, a version of alternating beauty and ugliness that is known as the truth.
