Pleasure vs. Purpose

We read differently when we are writing something. Under the pressure to produce some coherent work that supports an overarching thesis, we search for tidbits in our reading that relate to and enforce our written points. But when we read for pleasure, our minds are open to what we can learn from the text itself. So there is a difference between reading for purpose and reading for pleasure.

...How soon we forget that pleasure can be its own purpose.
