Writing in Windows

Jeff Pack, Brown University '99 (English 112, 1996)

Microsoft Windows made the writing process even easier for me. The Windows version of Microsoft Works the first what-you-see-is-what-you-get word processor that ran at a speed fast enough to actually compose on; later, when I worked on yearbook, I would use PageMaker to gain even more control over the appearance of the page. I still use Works and PageMaker to this day. Difficulties with printers and lack of fonts were both more easily remedied through Windows, as each program didn't have to include its own device drivers and additional TrueType fonts were easily downloadable from several BBS's.
