Cyborgs

By the late twentieth century, our time, a mythic time, we are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs.

Donna Haraway, in A Cyborg Manifesto

Cyborgs exist as the blend of humanity and technology, particularly information technology. Language itself is the oldest informational technology; as humanity is generally considered to be such from the point we acquired language and began building societies, one might say we have always been cyborgs. The revelation has only come into light recently (the word "cyborg" is only half a century old, after all) but cyborg theorists have a wealth of information equal to the entire history of humanity to draw on. Cyborgs are inherently composite beings, bound together from organic and biological elements. Their existence is grounded in both the connections between their various parts and connections with a wider community (a community of global scope in the modern era of the world wide web).

The duty of a cyborg is to blur boundaries, to stretch the limits of traditional mentalities. Their tools are their extended consciousness and the potent decentralization of information represented by hypermedia. This section is a glimpse of what we become when we embrace our cyborg nature, and what we should do next.
