Avoid inappropriate use of design elements from one information technology in another: the page metaphor in an early version of Interleaf WorldView.

This system follows the page metaphor for organizing electronic text so closely that it includes footers, which have no meaning or function in the linear stream of electronic textuality. Although otherwise this document's handsome design makes it easy and pleasurable to read, the presence of footers and the textual information there contained occupies such a high percentage of screen real estate that readers quickly become annoyed at the way these nonfunctional spaces interrupt their reading and require them to use additional keystrokes to move through each lexia.
