I thought I was a writer before I started to program. The appeal of my writing was my stream-of-consciousness style, my ability to write with no audience in mind, uncorrupted by thoughts of a "final work" or even a set direction for my tales to take. My brain sent direct signals to my fingers which in turn drew squiggly words upon paper or touched computer keys in constant flow. When my thoughts were particularly interesting and logical my essays and stories and poems and papers were good. Actually, they were really good. They sparked various people to say, "Wow! You're a great writer!" These people deemed me "well-written," and I accepted their compliments, for being "well-written" was a pretty cool thing to be.
