Disorientation...

As the artificial memories replace the teenager's genuine memories, he finds himself in a struggle to rediscover his true identity. Blindly following random memories in an attempt to discover what is real, any sense of linear progression and chronological integrity is lost.

At this time, the disorienting and anti-narrative nature inherent to hypertext is exploited. Just as the protagonist can no longer distinguish between fact and fiction, between reality and simulation, the reader undergoes a similar experience. S/he follows multiple hypertextual paths that may or may not lead to their logical or realistic conclusions.
