When I was younger, my mother was always telling me, "Ming-Ming," I hated it when she called me by my chinese name rather than my American name, David, "you have to put other people first. You give them the best and then they will respect you." I learned later in life that this wasn't exactly the formula for long-term happiness, but I listened. I didn't have a choice but to listen. I was the son of first-generation Chinese parents.
