| Donna Haraway has used the cyborg to figure the postmodern self. The cyborg in social reality references biomedical and other technologies which modify the organism or extend its normal reach. The fictional cyborg provides more radical myths, utopian and dystopian, of the dissolution of identities and boundaries between machine and human. Instead of 'othering' the cyborg against an ideal of an organic, bounded and whole female self, she invites us to seize, explore and embrace the possibilities it generates for developing hybrid subjectivities. |
