Simply put, R is a slob and L is thoughtless. As a consequence, none of their belongings is exactly in the best of shape. The coffee table has milky white stains on it from the time L put the pizza box on it, and all the coffee cups are stained, due to R's absentminded habit of leaving half-drunken cups all over the house. L, of course, has knocked over 25% percent of these cups, usually onto some extremely important papers (the lease, R's paycheck), which R has neglected to put away. There is constant bickering over who's at fault for the whole mess. Resolutions are made, but never kept, and everything is more or less okay until the next big crisis.
